Whether you spend 2 minutes or 12 hours sitting in an office chair, the type of chair you sit in is very important to your work and health. There are few things one should consider before buying that new office chair.
• One very important aspect of buying an office chair is to consider back support. Check for the adjustable height option or even if the chair is adjustable. Look for chairs that have upper and mid-back support. Try to find one with a tilt mechanism that allows you to recline (just a little) to support movement.
• Armrest and height levers determine how your chair interacts with your desk. Armrests are used to help relieve pressure off of your back. However they can collide with the desk which hinders one from comfortably being able to complete task on the desk the chair is next to. Make sure the armrests are cushioned and broad for comfort ability. Likewise, the height levers are used so the thighs should be parallel to the floor, the feet are firmly on the floor, and the chair can fit under the desk.
• The seat of the chair is also important. A few fingers should be able to fit between the edge of the seat and the back of your knee. The seat should extend at minimum one inch from either side of your hips.
• Notice the fabric of the office chair. Leather or vinyl is very easy to keep clean but they are more expensive. On the other hand, cloth is less expensive but it is harder to clean.
• The feature that screams in most minds is the price. Can you truly afford that $2500 chair? Make sure that your chair helps you in getting the job done instead of you getting the job done just to afford that new office chair.
